Paul's Graceful Audit: Finding Peace in Abundance
š§ Today's devotional ā listen while you start your day
Back for your daily touchstone? I love to see it. It's Wednesday, and spring is really starting to show its colors, bringing that renewal energy we all need. I saw a headline this morning about another streaming service jacking up its subscription price, and it got me thinking about how we manage what we're given ā both the abundance and the lack. Nothing fancy today. Just truth with a cup of coffee. Don't miss this insight..
I know how to abound. ā Philippians 4:12The Briefing
Paul's words here are deceptively simple: 'I know how to abound.' Itās easy to read that and think, 'Great, he knows how to handle having a lot.' But sometimes, the struggle is different, and as he explained to the Philippians, it's actually harder to navigate seasons of plenty than seasons of scarcity. Think about our modern world, with its endless feeds and apps, promising connection but often leaving us feeling overwhelmed. We set screen time limits and activate grayscale modes ā tools to protect us from our other tools ā because abundance can actually be a distraction. It's like a garden that's overgrown. Without careful tending, without the right shears, a healthy sprout can get choked out by everything else competing for light and water. The challenge isn't just about weathering a storm; it's about staying grounded when the sun is shining brightest and the garden is bursting. This text calls us to a moment to breathe in grace, remembering that even when our cup overflows, we need a steady hand.
āļø Your Mission
Your move for today is simply this: take two minutes, grab a pen and paper, and do a quick audit of your heart. What 'sprouts' of spiritual growth might be getting choked out by the 'overgrowth' of abundance in your life right now? Maybe that looks like writing down one thing you're over-consuming (digitally or physically) that's crowding out intentional time with The Lord."Holy Spirit, come level the ground for us. We claim the wisdom Paul described, to know how to abound without losing sight of You. Strengthen our resolve when blessings overflow, so that our hearts remain grateful and focused, not restless or prideful. May we wield the right 'shears' in our lives, pruning away anything that distracts us from what truly nourishes our souls. Lord Jesus, In Jesus' name... Amen."

My design client list feels totally abundant right now, which can be chaotic. But pausing to see it as full of opportunities, full of creative flow, thatās where the peace kicks in. Not just a to-do list, but moments to create, right now. Such a shift. šæš¤

Now then, that Paulās audit got me thinking. Itās easy to get caught up in the bits that arenāt working right, isnāt it? But that notion of a graceful audit, looking for the abundance? Brilliant. Just this morning, with the washing machine acting up and the phone ringing off the hook, I couldāve just grumbled. But I thought of Paul, and instead, I noticed the sun coming through the window on my Rosary beads. Grand, that. A simple moment to just breathe and see whatās good.
God bless,
Mary.
