Nathan's Pace: Uncovering Provision on the Plain Way
đ§ Today's devotional â listen while you start your day
Welcome to the space. You know that book on your nightstand, the one with the bookmark stuck on page 34 for weeks, gathering a fine layer of dust? It sits there, a quiet testament to good intentions and the sheer volume of life. It makes you feel a little guilty, doesn't it, just starting something new when the old one is still waiting? Sometimes, our spiritual lives can feel a bit like that unfinished book, where we silence the hurry but struggle to find the direct path forward.
Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and overran Cushi. â 2 Samuel 18:23The Briefing
Nathan's words here, from 2 Samuel, describe a scene where Ahimaaz chooses the way of the plain and, in doing so, outruns Cushi. Itâs a simple image: one runner takes the flatter, more direct route, while the other likely navigates hills and valleys, losing ground. If Iâm being real, Iâve struggled with this one for a long time. My spiritual life, much like my junk drawer filled with dead batteries and a charger for a flip phone I haven't owned since Y2K, often feels cluttered with unnecessary detours. I get bogged down in what I think I should be doing, accumulating spiritual 'tasks' instead of finding the clear, level road. This passage isn't just about literal running; itâs a strategy for life. We can spend so much energy on complicated routes, trying to earn favor or understand every theological nuance, when the Lord has laid out a plain, direct path. Itâs like when you were trying to download music on Napster back in the day, wading through all those broken files, when a friend just handed you a perfectly burned CD. Why do we make things so hard? This truth feels like a steady hand on a shaking shoulder, reminding us that sometimes the most effective strategy for spiritual victory isn't about scaling the highest peaks or fighting through every possible breach; it's about choosing the direct plain God has already provided. That is just.. pure oxygen for a tired soul, right? It helps us to clear our own territory of confusion, knowing the simplest path often leads to the quickest provision.
âïž Your Mission
Your move for today is simply this: Go to your own "junk drawer" (literal or metaphorical â your desk, your phone's apps, your browser tabs) and identify one item or digital space that represents a complicated, indirect path you've been taking. The challenge is to either clear it out or commit to using the direct route for that specific 'territory' moving forward."Letâs go to the Lord in prayer. God, we confess our tendency to complicate the path You've laid out for us. We grasp at control, believing our convoluted strategies will somehow lead to greater victory. We open our hands now and surrender those efforts, trusting that Your way is the plainest and most sure. Father, lead us in Your simplicity, that we might run without weariness and find Your direct provision. In Jesus' name... Amen."

Read the records of the community below.Mrs. HarrisonMarch 24, 2026That part about âuncovering provision on the plain wayâ certainly settled on my spirit, honey. Folks are always looking for a grand revelation, a mighty thunderclap. But the Lord⊠Heâs so often working right there in the quiet, consistent ways we just expect. Like watching the younger mothers manage school schedules and grocery prices, finding a way to make ends meet day after day. That steady, persistent making-a-way? Thatâs His hand at work. It helps me remember, when things feel heavy or uncertain for our community, that the goodness of the Lord isnât only for the mountaintops. The Lord is my shepherd, even on the long, flat roads. Wonât He do it! Always finding a path.

âNathanâs Paceâ puts a finer point on things. Watching the news, you see plenty of reasons to worry. But that Elijah story at the ravine? God told him exactly where to be and how itâd work out. Itâs a real reminder that even when things seem plain, the Sovereign hand is moving. Keeps you watchful for the Signs in your own day, even if itâs just a fence post falling right when you needed to fix that section anyway. Makes you pause and look closer.
