The Love That Breaches Your Defenses
🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day
Hey there. Let’s get grounded together. It's Saturday. A day that's supposed to feel open. But sometimes the ache we feel has nothing to do with the calendar. It's that feeling you get sitting in the doctor's office, forty-five minutes past your appointment time, just staring at the wall. You've been longing for rest, and not just sleep, but the real kind. The soul-deep quiet you don't actually know how to find. You just want the noise, the striving, the constant need to understand and control everything, to finally stop.
The love of Christ which passeth knowledge. — Ephesians 3:19The Briefing
Some things, I think, are not meant to be solved. They're meant to be stood in. Paul writes about the love of Christ that 'passeth knowledge.' He's not saying it's illogical. He's saying it's bigger than our logic. It operates in a category our minds can't fully contain. It's a truth that's meant to overwhelm us, not one we're meant to master. To even get a glimpse of this love, we have to look at the distance it traveled. Think about that. Before anything was, Christ was. Enthroned in majesty. Worshipped by seraphim. The One whose arm holds the galaxies in place. That was His starting point. And where did He go? All the way down. Not just to become a man, but a man of sorrows. To bleed. To die. To be utterly abandoned by His Father on a cross. That chasm, from the throne of the universe to the shame of a criminal's death, that is the only tape measure long enough to show us His love. It's a love that is, by its very nature, beyond our knowing. Our minds are built to analyze things, to break them down into manageable ranks. But God's love isn't a strategy we can map. It's the overwhelming reinforcements that show up when we thought the battle was lost. It creates a breach in the wall of our own understanding. It bypasses our calculations and our doubts and our fears. Honestly, it's not a love we are meant to comprehend. It's a love that comprehends us. This is where we find a space to calibrate your compass, not by figuring everything out, but by surrendering to the One who already has.
⚔️ Your Mission
Here is your next step... Consider this: God's love isn't something to analyze; it's a force to be encountered. Your mission today is to give Him an open door. Find one quiet moment, and ask one simple thing: 'Lord, show me one small piece of the love that is beyond my knowledge.' Don't try to feel it or figure it out. Just ask, then watch for the reinforcements."Dear Lord, thank You for a love that is too big for my mind. Thank You that it isn't an equation to be solved, but a reality to be lived in. We praise You for the journey You made, from the height of glory to the depth of the grave, all to close the distance to us. Help us rest in being known by that love, instead of striving to know it all ourselves. In Jesus' name... Amen."

After a shift like today, standing on my feet eight hours, you just feel… exposed, I reckon. Like, you don’t even have the energy to keep things locked up, you know? Makes you wonder if that’s when God really gets in there, when you’re just too tired to fight it. Maybe that’s not the right word, “fight it”, but… yeah.
You don't have to carry it alone.

Grand way to start the morning, reading this with my second cup of Barry’s tea, after hearing all the news on the wireless. Ah now, it’s true what you say about love breaching our defences, isn’t it? Sometimes we’re so busy putting up walls, thinking we know best, bless our cotton socks. You know yourself, even after all these years, I still find myself digging my heels in now and again, like a proper Dub! But God, He’s a patient one, alright. Just keeps knocking, doesn’t He? Always finds a way to sneak past the front gate. Brilliant altogether.
God bless, Mary
