John 15 and the End of Traveling Alone
🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day
Mason here. Thanks for carving out this time. You ever get stuck watching that little buffering wheel spin, right at the climax of the movie? The whole story just hangs there, frozen. There's a professional version of that, too. You're competent, you're handling it all, people look to you for the answers.. and you've never felt more alone. The progress bar of your own stamina is just.. stuck. You're doing it all, but you're doing it by yourself. And that feeling of isolation, even when you're technically successful, it's a specific kind of empty.
Abide in Me. — John 15:4The Briefing
You could spend a lifetime unpacking just those two words, right? In this passage, John records Jesus saying, 'Abide in Me.' He’s essentially saying: Stay here. Live here. Make your home in Me. There's a deep theology in that simple invitation. It reveals a God who desires nearness, not just a scheduled visit, but constant, lived-in fellowship. He isn't a friend who calls now and then. He is the one with whom we are meant to walk, always. He presents Himself as the steady guide for the difficult road, the fourth man in the furnace, the captain who's already drawn his sword for your battle. he is the safe place. The only one. His presence isn't a bonus feature for the Christian life, it is the source of it. Think about that. We spend so much of our lives trying to navigate by dead reckoning, using our last known position to guess where we are now. We piece together past experiences, our own strength, a bit of hope, and we push forward. Alone. But here's the thing, God's not asking you to guess your way home. He's offering to be the home you travel in. What that means for your Thursday is this: abiding isn't some mystical, abstract state of being. It's a conscious choice, over and over, to remain connected. It’s choosing His presence when you hit the threshold of your own patience. And instead of taking the usual exit ramp into distraction or anxiety, you stay. You lean in. Because communion with Christ is the cure, not just for the big disasters, but for the quiet isolation of a long week. It's always been the cure. Seriously, we just have to abide.
⚔️ Your Mission
Here is the challenge for today... so much of abiding is learning to stay put in God's presence. But that presence isn't meant to be hoarded. I want you to try this: Think of one person you know who is navigating a difficult road right now, someone who feels isolated in their competence. Your mission is to be a human signpost pointing them back to the Guide. Send them a text, not with advice, but with this simple sentence: 'Just wanted you to know I see you, and I'm praying you feel God's steadfast presence with you today.' Don't fix it. Just remind them where home is."Jesus, we're coming to you mid-shift, often feeling like we have to navigate this all on our own. But Your invitation to abide isn't just a comfort, it is a promise. You said if we remain in You, we are safe. You are the guide for the road, the companion in the fire, the steadfast presence in our isolation. We claim that promise now. Let us feel the reality of Your arms underneath us today. In Jesus' name... Amen."

Not traveling alone. Yep. That’s the truth folks. Been driving my pickup around Columbus today, wrestling with a tough decision on the big project. Easy to think it’s all on me. But this is it. Reminds you to lean into the connection, not just muscle through. Spot on. 👍
