The God Who Hands You the Keys
🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day
Welcome to the space. It's Wednesday. You know, some seasons feel like a total reconstruction. Who you were isn't quite who you are becoming, and that middle space is just… disorienting. It feels like you have to figure out the blueprints as you go. It reminds me of this old chair I've got on the workbench, the joints are all loose, and I keep trying to force them back together, but nothing's holding. It feels like the whole thing could just collapse. And we spend so much energy trying to hold ourselves together, too.
God, even our own God. — Psalm 67:6The Briefing
Okay but here's the part that wrecks me.. it's the possessive pronoun. It's the two words we skip right over to get to the noun. Not just 'God.' But 'our own God.' Think about that. The Psalmist isn't just making a statement about a deity's existence. He's making a claim of belonging. He's saying the God who spun the galaxies has, in some mysterious and stunning way, given Himself to us. He has made Himself available. This is theology disguised as a simple sentence. God isn't just a force we appeal to. He's a friend who invites us in. He's a storehouse with the doors thrown open, and the owner is saying, 'Come and take what you need. The more you come, the more welcome you are.' And yet, how often do we stand outside, trying to pick the lock on our own problems? We try to bear our own burdens, navigate our own disorientation, glue our own cracked pieces back together. We're like broken pottery, sitting in the bisque stage. Trying to patch the fissures with cheap glue, hoping no one sees the fault lines. But 'our own God' is the master potter. He doesn't just patch our cracks; He invites us back into the firing. He wants to make us new. The gospel is the ultimate expression of this. God didn't just shout advice from heaven. He became Emmanuel,God with us. He made Himself 'our own' in the most tangible way possible, putting on skin and bone. He's not just a resource; He's our inheritance. And the strange tragedy is how little use we make of Him.
⚔️ Your Mission
Here is your next step... I want you to try this. The next time someone asks 'How are you?' today, give an honest, one-sentence answer. Not the whole story. Just something real like, 'It's been a heavy week,' or 'Honestly, I'm feeling a little cracked.' You're not asking for a fix, you're just refusing to carry it alone. That is the mission."Almighty God, thank you for not being a distant, inaccessible power. Thank you for the breathtaking gift of Yourself, for being 'our own God.' You invite us to come freely, to use You as our sun and our shield. Forgive us for trying to fix our own cracks when You, the master potter, are right here. Help us to use the gift of Yourself today. In Jesus' name... Amen."

God, even our own God.Psalm 67:6
This line is a powerful claim about relationship. It isn't just talking about a distant, general creator. The words "our own" are possessive. It's a declaration that God has made himself personally available to his people. He belongs to them, and they belong to him.
This means God has made all his resources available, too. He invites his people to draw on him for absolutely anything. The phrase implies he can be whatever they need him to be: a sun in darkness, a shield against enemies, or a guide for the lost. He's available for every situation.
