    Grace Is Not a Feeling — It's a Place

    June 15, 2026

🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day

Back for your daily touchstone? I love to see it. It’s Monday. And maybe you’re feeling it already, that sense that you’re behind on everything. Not catastrophically. Just constantly, by a little, in every direction. It reminds me of that phantom progress bar on a software update, the one that sits at 99% for what feels like an hour. You’re doing the work, you’re putting in the effort, but you just never seem to get to 'complete.' That constant feeling of depletion… it has a way of becoming the background noise of life, doesn’t it?

Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. — 2 Timothy 2:1

    The Briefing

Stay with me here… Paul’s command to Timothy isn't the kind of empty motivation you'd see on a gym poster. He’s not saying, 'Grit your teeth and be stronger.' He’s pointing to a location. He’s saying, 'Go stand in this specific place, and you will be strong.' The strength isn't in you; it's in the grace. Here's what that means. Christ’s grace isn't a theory, and it isn't a feeling. It's a resource. Think about a massive reservoir, full to the brim, designed for one purpose, to empty itself into the pipes that feed a city. The commentary I was reading this morning puts it this way: Christ holds His grace only to dispense it. He is the fountain, always flowing, but only to fill the empty cups brought to it. This grace, for pardon, for cleansing, for strength, for every single thing we need, is meant to be used. It's not just for Him; it's for us. And here's the part that just gets me. This creates a kind of deep communion, a shared lifeblood. The text paints this picture of the sacred oil being poured over the head of the high priest. But it doesn't just stop there, it runs down, all the way to the very bottom hem of his robes. We are the hem of the garment. The same precious, costly grace that anoints the Head is the very same grace that reaches the lowest, dustiest, most overlooked parts of the Body. Our exhaustion isn't the main story; it's just a symptom. The cure, the spiritual immunity, is a resource that is already flowing our way. So that feeling of being constantly behind, of having nothing left in the tank? That’s not a signal to try harder. Look, that’s a signal to relocate. The command is to be strong in the grace. It's about drawing from a supply that was never yours to begin with. It’s like having an unlimited trust fund and trying to pay for everything with the loose change in your pocket. The provision is there. Paul is pleading with us, just go to the source and take what you need.

    ⚔️ Your Mission

Here is your next step… Grace isn't meant to terminate with you; it's meant to flow through you. Try this: Share a meal with someone today, not just food, but your presence. Make them feel seen and supplied, a small echo of how Christ supplies you. Be the conduit, not the reservoir.
"Lord God, we confess that we live like we're spiritually self-employed, trying to generate the strength we need from our own depleted accounts. We hold our exhaustion like it's proof we're trying. Help us to unclench our fists, to open our hands, and to simply receive the grace that is already flowing from You. Let us draw from Your reservoir today, not our own shallow wells. Teach us to be strong in You. In Jesus' name... Amen."
