When You're Too Tired to Fly Home
🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day
Peace to you in the middle of all the noise. It’s one of those summer Fridays where the air is thick and the steering wheel is almost too hot to touch. The week is done. And honestly? You're just.. done. You might even cancel something you were looking forward to tonight, because you just don't have the margin for even the good things. All you want is to find a place to land, a place to finally stop striving.
Then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark. — Genesis 8:9The Briefing
That little dove is worn out. She’s been flying over an endless world of water, looking for one single place to rest, and found nothing. I mean, think about that. She’s so tired she’s about to just drop from the sky. But she struggles on, back toward the only home she knows. And here’s what gets me. Moses records that when she finally gets there, she’s too weak to even fly inside. She just makes it to the edge. And Noah doesn’t just open the window and wait, the text says he put forth his hand, took her, and pulled her in. He closes the final distance. He does the last bit of work she can’t. And notice what's missing? There’s no lecture. No scolding for wandering off. And this time, she has no olive branch in her mouth. She isn't bringing back proof of success, she’s just bringing herself. Hear me on this. We spend so much energy trying to come back to God with an olive branch. We try to clean ourselves up, fix the habit, rehearse the apology, and make ourselves presentable. We think we need to prove we've learned our lesson. But God’s word to the wandering is simply, “only return.” Not “return when you’re better.” Not “return when you have something to show for it.” Just return. Backsliding, exhausted, empty-handed, and all. Culture says you have to earn your place. That you have to perform to be accepted. The Creator says something else entirely. He’s not standing at the bow waiting for you to sail a perfect race. He sees you struggling, trying to trim the jib in a storm you can’t manage, and He reaches out His hand to pull you in. That's not passive hope. That is a defendant mercy that cuts right through the noise of our striving and says, “You’re home.”
⚔️ Your Mission
Here is the challenge for today: Name the one thing you’re trying to fix about yourself before you feel worthy of coming to God. Is it a habit? A secret? An apology you're endlessly rehearsing? Stop trying to fix the wake you left behind. Today, your only job is to return, not to arrive perfected."Gracious God, we confess how tired we are from trying to fly on our own. We try to bring You proof that we're worthy, when all You've ever asked for is our weary selves. Thank you for not waiting for us to get it right, but for reaching out to pull us into safety. Help us trust the hand that reaches for us. In Jesus' name... Amen."

You ever just feel like you been running on fumes for weeks? Trying to keep it real with the youth, on the court, on the block, always on. That grind is constant. Constant. Sometimes you just wanna crash, you know? Like, straight up. Remember that we ain’t gotta do it all alone. That’s it right there. We get tired. Tired. It’s a real thing, man. Grateful for this reminder to lean back a bit. Gotta go get ready for youth night now, but this hit right. Right. Keep pushing. 👊

That idea of being too depleted to even initiate the ‘return to base’ protocol. A critical system state. The divine failsafe engaging when the personal power grid goes dark. That tracks. Still debugging the architecture behind it.
