Genesis: Dwelling Deep, Finding Clarity in the Everyday
🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day
Welcome to the space. I found my dad's old watch the other day, tucked away in a drawer. It still ticks, a steady, quiet rhythm, a testament to reliable craftsmanship in a world that often feels flimsy. It made me think about the places we choose to dwell, the consistent sources we return to, where we dig deep roots in shallow soil.
Isaac dwelt by the well Lahai-roi. — Genesis 25:11The Briefing
Here is what it says in Moses's record: Isaac made his home by the well Lahai-roi. It wasn't a casual stop, like running to the tap for a quick drink; this was his chosen spot, his consistent source of supply. Think about the transition from wired to wireless, the illusion that less friction meant more freedom. We traded untangling headphone cords for losing Bluetooth connections at crucial moments. Or the endless scroll of streaming services – 30 minutes browsing, nothing chosen, leaving us with that 'continue watching' shame. We crave connection, but often end up in a kind of digital isolation, overwhelmed by options. This passage asks us to consider our own 'wells.' What are the steady sources we return to, day in and day out? Is it a constant stream of external noise, or something deeper? Just like an athlete focuses on their form and the disciplined reps to build endurance, Moses shows us Isaac prioritizing a place of consistent, life-giving supply. There's a stillness in that verse that's hard to rush past. It implies a quiet steadfastness, a commitment to a particular source. It’s about choosing to truly inhabit a space, to find clarity in a focused presence, rather than just visiting.
⚔️ Your Mission
Here is your assignment for today, a simple rep for your heart’s form: Notice where you spend your first five minutes of 'free' time after work or a major task. Is it an automatic grab for your phone to scroll, or something else? Your move is simple: For just one day, when that impulse hits, consciously pause for two minutes. Don't pick up the device, don't open the app. Just sit with the quiet and observe what sensation or thought you were trying to avoid."Let’s lift this up together... Lord God, we confess that our hearts often chase after shallow streams, easily distracted by the endless options the world offers. We get lost in the noise, seeking comfort in places that leave us feeling more isolated. Forgive us when we forget to dwell by the well You provide, the source of true life and peace. Help us find the discipline, like Isaac, to choose Your presence, even when it feels like a quiet effort. Lord God, In Jesus' name... Amen."

Like, even when I’m wrestling the kids out the door for school, or dealing with another email storm at work. It makes you pause. Not just waiting for Sunday’s sermon or the band. He’s right there, in the chaos. Gives you a different perspective.
You don't have to carry it alone.

This Genesis devotional. It makes me think about how God put everything in order from the start. Sometimes my shop is a mess, sawdust everywhere, orders piling up. It’s easy to just push through. But then I remember, God worked with what He had. He brought light. I can stop. Look at the grain of the wood. See His hand in the simple things, even when everything else feels like chaos. Makes the work different.
