Matthew: Finding Refuge in Silent Answers

    March 30, 2026

🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day

Peace be with you. Monday is here, and for many of us, the grind begins with a fresh start or a familiar dread. You know that heart-stopping moment when you pat your pocket and your phone isn’t there? Or your wallet? Those five seconds where the world stops, your stomach drops, and you frantically retrace your steps, only to find it safe in another bag? That little bit of internal friction is a taste of modern life, isn't it? Today, Matthew offers us a glimpse into a different kind of connection, a deep well of refuge in the midst of every day.

At that time Jesus answered. — Matthew 11:25

    The Briefing

Matthew describes a moment with just six words: “At that time Jesus answered.” It's disorienting at first glance, because Matthew doesn't record anyone asking Jesus a question. No human voice is heard, no conversation initiated by a disciple. Yet, Jesus answers. It’s an almost unbelievably generous detail, a tiny brushstroke on the vast canvas of Matthew’s gospel that quietly reveals the constant, ongoing conversation Jesus had with His Father. It paints a picture of intimate communion, where questions and answers flowed in a silent, unbroken stream, unnoticed by the world but foundational to His life. This passage, this brief mark on the page, is a quiet invitation for us. In a world of digital exhaustion, where notifications ping endlessly and our inboxes are a mythical 'zero,' it can feel like we're always reacting to external noise. But here is the other side of that coin: a reminder that we, too, can live in a responsive relationship with God, where the biggest decision isn't which obscure 90s snack to pick, but to simply listen. Matthew’s witness here shows us a way to make space for the unheard conversation, to begin to sketch out our own daily masterpiece of connection, where we learn to see the sacred in the ordinary.

    ⚔ Your Mission

Here is your assignment for today: take a prayer walk. Here is the practical step: sometime today, take a short walk—around the block, your office floor, or even just your living room. As you move, speak out loud or under your breath to God. Don't worry about elegant words; just talk to Him. Make it a tangible mark of your devotion, like adding a new color to your spiritual canvas.
"Jesus, we're coming to you mid-shift, with minds full of the day's pings and demands. We ask you to quiet the noise in our heads. Help us create space for your voice amidst the chatter, the constant digital friction. Let us respond to you, even when the world hasn't asked. We want to hear the whispers of your love, to mark our lives by your presence. Jesus, In Jesus' name... Amen."

The devotional on “Silent Answers” clarifies a core system function. Often, in the noise of project deadlines or morning drop-off logistics, I expect overt signals. But God’s ‘silent answers’ are more like background processes, the stable Source code. They’re always running, providing a robust operational environment even when explicit data isn’t immediately displayed. This means trusting the system’s integrity, even without real-time debug logs. It’s about recognizing the implicit stability, a foundational refuge amidst the usual system overload.

Yo, this ‘Silent Answers’ devo? đŸ”„ Real talk. So often I’m out here on the block, dealing with drama, trying to figure out how to help a kid caught up, or just navigating the whole city vibe. I’m always looking for that big, obvious sign, you know?

But this flipped it. It’s about finding that calm, that refuge, even when things are loud and messy. Like, God dropping wisdom not in a loud shout, but in that quiet feeling to just listen to a kid, or to just be present when I’m ready to react. That’s a game-changer for my day. Big facts. 👊

You don't have to carry it alone.
