When God Trusts You With a Storm
🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day
It's good to be with you today. You ever smell gasoline at the pump on a really cold morning? It's sharp. It's the smell of a journey you have to take, whether you want to or not. It reminds me of those drives, you know the ones. The early morning trip to the hospital for a test. The silent commute to a meeting where a hard decision is waiting. There’s a dread that hangs in the air, a "day of evil" looming on the calendar, and it feels like you're bracing for impact, alone.
Thou art my hope in the day of evil. — Jeremiah 17:17The Briefing
Here's what we miss though.. we read a line like Jeremiah's and we think it's just a poetic way of saying 'God helps me when things get hard.' But it's so much more than that. It's a declaration of allegiance. Jeremiah is saying that when the diagnosis comes, when the layoff hits, when the storm arrives.. God is the only safe place to stand. Look, the Bible is clear. The Christian life isn't a smooth, paved road. At certain points, God gives His children a "riper and rougher experience." Why? Because He's not raising fragile believers. He's training soldiers. He allows the winds and tempests, not to break us, but to exercise our faith. To tear off our rotten dependency on our own strength and root us more firmly in Him. Think about that. The hardship isn't a sign that God is absent. It's evidence that He's present and actively at work. He trusts us with the weight. This is where our spiritual form gets tested. When the pressure is on, do we collapse into ourselves, or do we sink our roots deeper into the character of God? The "day of evil" reveals what we've been training for. All the quiet moments, the prayers, the time in scripture, that's the conditioning. And yes, there's going to be some spiritual soreness. That ache doesn't mean we're doing it wrong. It means our faith-muscles are being built. It means we're getting stronger. Our hope isn't in avoiding the storm. Our hope is the One who stands with us in the storm. The cool-down isn't when the problem disappears. It's when we can rest in His presence right in the middle of it.
⚔️ Your Mission
Here is your next step... it's an integrity check. We say God is our hope, but our anxiety often proves we place it elsewhere. Practically speaking... name the thing your fear is actually tethered to today. Is it a person's approval? A bank account balance? A doctor's report? Say it out loud to God: 'I say You are my hope, but I've been trusting in .' Just seeing it is the mission."Heavenly Father, we come to You with our hands clenched tight around things we were never meant to carry. We confess we trust more in our own plans than in Your presence. Help us to release our grip. Teach us to see the hard seasons not as Your absence, but as Your training ground. Give us the strength to endure the soreness and the faith to trust Your process. Let us find our rest not in a change of circumstances, but in You. In Jesus' name... Amen."

Read the records of the community below.Mrs. HarrisonSeptember 17, 2026Trust. That’s the powerful word. The Lord truly trusts us with these storms, doesn’t He? For all my decades here on the South Side, watching this community bend but never break, I’ve seen that truth borne out time and again. It ain’t a punishment, honey, when the waves get high and the wind starts howling. It’s an assignment. A deep, divine trust that you can carry what He’s given you, and that you’ll bring His light through it. Won’t He do it, though? He always gives you the grace. Always.
The Lord is faithful. — Mrs. Harrison

Thou art my hope in the day of evil.Jeremiah 17:17
Jeremiah is speaking to God here about "the day of evil." This isn't just one bad afternoon. It describes a whole season of darkness and trial, when the easy, sunlit path a person was walking suddenly gets rough and feels more like a desert.
These hard times aren't meaningless, though. They have a purpose: to exercise a person's faith and tear away any dependence on themselves. They’re designed to root someone more firmly in God. It's in the middle of this "day of evil" that we discover how valuable our hope in him really is.
In modern English, this verse simply says, "You are my hope in the day of evil."

Dude… “when God trusts you with a storm.” wild. is that even a thing? like, God trusting me? i do not even know how to say this but my mind is a little blown. thought it was more about metrusting *him, not the other way around. never even considered that idea. all the stuff i used to get into… it’s kinda peaceful to think about like this though.
