John's Report on a Love Without an End

    September 23, 2026

🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day

Morning. That first cup of coffee is a quiet moment, isn't it? Before the day gets loud. It's often when the other quiet things surface. Maybe you're scrolling through old pictures on your phone. And there they are, that friend, that family member. The person in the photo isn't gone, not really. But the person you knew, the relationship you had.. that part is. It's a strange kind of grief, missing someone who's still here. It’s the quiet ache of knowing that love can change. That it can fade.

Having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end — John 13:1

    The Briefing

This is one of those lines of scripture that feels simple until you let it land. I mean, really let it land. John isn't just saying Jesus loved his friends. He's making a much bigger, more solid claim. He’s saying that having started loving His own people, He loved them all the way to the finish line. To the very end. To the uttermost. Think about that. Who were 'his own' in that room? Peter, who would deny him in a matter of hours. The rest, who would scatter and hide when things got real. Judas was likely already gone, his betrayal in motion. What was in them to love so completely? Honestly, what is in us? This is where the ground shifts under our feet. His love for us isn't a response to our goodness. It isn't a fragile feeling that needs perfect conditions for its preservation. It’s a settled fact of history. It's a declaration about who he is. Once He set His love on His people, it became His nature to continue it. It can't be buried by our failures or forgotten in our wandering. It's a perfect love,no flaws, no holding back, no 'what ifs.' He couldn't love us more. We know the friction of human love. It changes. People grow apart. The person you knew ten years ago is a different person now. But Christ's love isn't like that. It doesn't get revised based on new information about our weaknesses. The commentary I was reading put it this way: what our Lord was, He is. The love He gave those disciples,in all their mess,is the very same love He has for you right now. It has already been given, perfectly and completely. It has reached its end, its goal, its final state. And that end is you.

    ⚔️ Your Mission

Let's practice a love that doesn't fade. Today, take a walk around your block or your office building. For each of the four sides, pick one person you know and pray for them, and only them, for that entire stretch. No lists. Just sustained, focused care. If a walk isn't possible, find a window. For five full minutes, pray for the first person who comes to mind who feels forgotten. Let your prayer be an act of preservation, reminding God,and yourself, that they are seen.
"Almighty God, it's hard to believe a love like this is real. Quiet the noise in our heads that tells us Your love has an expiration date, that it depends on us. Let the simple, solid truth of Your word be louder than our doubts today. Help us rest in the finished fact of Your love for us. In Jesus' name... Amen."

Nah, for real, ‘love without an end’ is the whole game. The whole game. That’s why we hoop, you feel me? 👊 Big facts.

Okay, this is so good. 🌿 Sitting with this idea of love without an end. It’s just… so much to take in, especially when I’m wrestling with things, like prepping this worship set and feeling a bit scattered. This line, it just brings up that quiet, hopeful song I’ve been stuck on. Like, Spirit-led, just holding you through everything… yeah. Needed this today.
