Leaving the Camp for the King

    July 29, 2026

🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day

Morning. Or afternoon. Whenever you are, I’m glad we’re connecting. There’s a specific kind of modern annoyance, isn't there? It's the exhaustion of trying to figure out what you actually believe while a thousand podcasts, posts, and experts are all shouting what they believe. You're just looking for a little quiet, a little space to think, and the noise is relentless. It’s not just information overload. It’s identity overload. And if we’re not careful, it can leave us feeling completely numb, unsure of what we ever thought in the first place. It makes you want to find your daily anchor in a spinning world.

Let us go forth therefore unto Him without the camp. — Hebrews 13:13

    The Briefing

The writer of Hebrews gives us a direct command here. It's not a suggestion. 'Let us go… unto Him without the camp.' In other words, get up and walk away from the consensus. Follow Jesus to the place where it’s not comfortable. Look, this starts with Him. jesus went first. He carried His cross outside the city gates, outside the religious establishment, outside the safety of the known. His separation wasn't an accident; it was His mission. He wasn't just leaving something behind. He was establishing a new center of gravity. He became the new gathering place, for the outcast, the seeking, the honest. God's presence was no longer in a building inside the camp. It was now in a Person, outside of it. And honestly? That's where our own sanctification happens. We can't grow into who we're meant to be while we're still conformed to the world. It’s like an archeological dig. We're trying to find the original truth of who we are, but it's buried under layers of cultural noise, family expectations, and the pressure to just fit in. To get to the authentic scroll, the one with our name written on it by God,we have to be willing to dig. And sometimes, digging means leaving the comfort of the camp. It's an act of spiritual preservation. Let's be real, the camp today is our feed. It's the non-stop flow of opinions demanding we pick a side. It's the fear of being misunderstood. The pressure is immense, and it creates a deep numbness. But this verse is the cure. It says the goal isn't to be singular for its own sake. The goal is to get to him. We're not walking into emptiness. We're walking toward a Person. That’s the kind of truth that gives us clarity and makes fear a liar. It's a defiant step toward the only voice that matters.

    ⚔️ Your Mission

Here is your next step... Let's get concrete: Following Jesus 'without the camp' can create distance with people still in it. Today, your mission is to close one of those gaps. Think of one person you've drifted from on this journey. Reach out. Not to argue or convince, but just to connect. Send the text. Make the call. Re-establish contact. It's a defiant act of love.
"Lord Jesus, we thank you for going first. For walking out of the camp, bearing the cross, and making a way for us to find you there. Thank you that this call to separation isn't a call to loneliness,it's an invitation into deeper communion with you. Give us the lion-like hearts we need to step away from the noise and walk toward your voice today. Let that give us the clarity we're desperate for. In Jesus' name... Amen."

Waking up the kids for soccer practice is chaos, but the ‘leaving the camp’ idea… legit makes you think about what you’re actually prioritizing. No joke, that’s real talk for managing resources.

Leaving the camp, honey, that is where the real faith truly begins. It’s never easy letting go of what you thought was home. But the Lord knows. He really does. He makes a way out of no way, always. Won’t He do it? Decades have shown me this truth. Every single time.

Let us go forth therefore unto Him without the camp.Hebrews 13:13

This command points directly to Jesus's example. When He went to the cross, He was led to suffer "without the gate," outside the city's accepted religious and social center. The verse is a call for his followers to join Him there.

Here, "the camp" represents the world's systems—its sin and its empty religion. Going "without the camp" means leaving worldly conformity behind. It's a call to live a separated life, taking a public stand for Christ and for the truth, just like He did.
