1 Corinthians and the Spirit Who Simplifies Hope
🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day
Mason here. Thanks for carving out this time. I saw a headline this week that another streaming service is jacking up its prices. It's just another little reminder, right? Everything costs something. It feeds this quiet anxiety that we're always performing, always earning our place, even with our downtime. It makes you wonder if anything is truly free anymore.
Now we have received . . . the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. — 1 Corinthians 2:12The Briefing
And that's where the text flips the script. Paul is saying, look, you’ve been given God's Spirit for a very specific reason: so you can actually know, in your bones, all the good things God has already given you for free. Think about that. All the promises of God, His love, His grace, forgiveness, they're like priceless gifts stored on the highest shelf in the universe. We can see them, maybe, but we can't reach them on our own. They’re just theory. But here's what gets me. The Spirit's job is to get up on the ladder, take those gifts down, and place them directly into our hands. He makes the eternal suddenly personal. It's like the most incredible feast is prepared, but we’re locked outside. The Spirit is the one who unlocks the door and serves us the meal. Without Him, all of God's work on our behalf remains a dormant truth. It’s true, but it's not real to us, until He makes it real.
⚔️ Your Mission
I have a challenge for you, and it's where we take ancient truth and walk it out. The Spirit takes what is high up and brings it down for us. Let's do that for someone else. Try this: Send a voice memo to one person today who feels overwhelmed. Don't just text. Let them hear your voice and say, "Hey, just thinking of you. No need to reply, but I'm praying God's peace finds you in a real way today.""Let’s talk to the Father... Heavenly Father, Your Word says we've received Your Spirit so we can know what You've freely given. We don't have to guess or strive or fear we've missed it. Today, we claim that promise. By Your Spirit, make the reality of Your grace more real to us than the weight of our failures. Let us know, deep in our souls, that the gift is already ours. In Jesus' name... Amen."

With all the school drop-offs and trying to figure out dinner, my brain is usually just scrambled eggs! But that part about the Spirit simplifying hope? YES! It’s like, even when my mind is completely overwhelmed, the Spirit is right there, cutting through all the noise, making God’s promises clear. Hallelujah! It helps me remember His hand is in all of it. Can I get a witness?

Dude, that whole bit about the Spirit simplifying hope? Wild. My brain’s been scrambled trying to make sense of everything lately, especially dealing with all the drama at work. It feels like I gotta have all the answers. But realizing I don’t have to perfectly piece it all together, that the Spirit just does that for me? Damn. It’s like a huge weight off. Makes it easier to just, like, chill and trust when things get crazy.
