Song of Songs: A Prayer for Any Wind
🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day
Back for your daily touchstone? I love to see it. There’s a version of you that only exists late at night, isn’t there? The one scrolling in the dark, feeling the weight of a profound numbness. It’s that same small grief as checking an empty mailbox, day after day. You have this quiet confession you rehearse but never actually say out loud: 'God, I feel.. nothing.' What do you pray when you’re too tired to even want anything?
Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. — Song of Songs 4:16The Briefing
Now check this out.. Solomon’s words here feel like he’s speaking that late-night confession for us. He’s basically saying, 'God, I don't care how You do it, send the biting, cold north wind of trouble or the warm, gentle south wind of comfort, just do something. Wake me up.' He's tired of the dead calm. He’s tired of feeling stuck. Here's the thing, anything is better than indifference. Anything is better than being on the sideline of your own life, spiritually speaking. This prayer isn't asking for pain. It’s asking for life. It’s the cry of a heart that is so desperate to feel again, to grow again, that it’s willing to trust the Gardener with whatever weather He deems necessary. It’s a recognition that both trial and comfort can be used by God to bring out the best in us, the faith, the hope, the love that He planted there. The goal isn't our ease, it's a fragrance that delights Him.
⚔️ Your Mission
Here is your assignment... and it might feel counterintuitive. It’s an act of quiet trust, a way of getting your soul ready for whatever wind God sends. Here is the practical step: Go to bed thirty minutes earlier tonight. Not to scroll, not to plan. This isn't about productivity; it’s about surrender. It's telling God, 'I'm done striving. My garden is Yours. I'll be ready for whatever You send tomorrow.'"Let’s settle our hearts and talk to Him... Lord Jesus, thank You for not leaving us in the dead calm. Thank You for caring enough to send the winds we need, even when we don't understand them. We praise You for being a wise Gardener who knows exactly how to make our little plot of earth fruitful. Help us be brave enough to welcome whatever You send to wake us up. Let that trust grow in us today. In Jesus' name... Amen."

Usually I figure you gotta make it a whole big thing, you know? But Lord help me, if I can just whisper a thought while I’m countin’ change at the register, or tryin’ to get Billy to eat his peas… that’s a whole different story. Gives me a way to find a little peace in the mess.

The “any wind” idea from the devotional is pure gold. It’s like, instead of waiting for a quiet mountaintop, God’s presence is the way the light catches dust motes in the morning rush 🎨, or that sudden, vibrant calm when the work stress feels like too much. It’s a reminder that beauty and grace are always swirling, just waiting for me to breathe them in. So much light ✨.
