Peter’s Simple Cure for Soul Numbness

    May 19, 2026

🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day

It’s good to be with you today. Thanks for showing up. I had this flash of a memory the other day, the sheer weight of my backpack on the first day of middle school. It felt like I was carrying rocks. Honestly, some days still feel like that, just with invisible stuff, the grocery list mental load, the project deadlines, the relational static. You just get used to the weight, right? You get used to the grind. But after a while you have to wonder what makes carrying it all… worth it.

    He is precious. — 1 Peter 2:7

    The Briefing

Now check this out… Peter writes this tiny, three-word sentence that you could build a cathedral on. "He is precious." It sounds so simple, almost like something you'd see on a coffee mug. But Peter means something a lot heavier. He’s not just saying Jesus is valuable, like a rare gem. He’s saying Jesus is the center. He’s the gravitational pull that keeps the entire cosmos of your life from flying apart into a million cold, dark pieces. Stay with me here. Without that center, everything is a howling wilderness. The job, the family, the hobbies… they’re just debris floating in a void. But with Him? Everything finds its orbit. Everything has a purpose. He is the soul of our soul, the light of our light. Think about what your day would be without Him. Not just harder, but empty. The recognition of that void, that’s what makes His presence so incredibly, fundamentally precious.

    ⚔️ Your Mission

So here is the mission, and it's a moment to align your heart with God's rhythm. The challenge is to… text someone who you know feels like they're drifting and say this, word for word: 'Thinking of you. Just prayed that you'd feel the strong, steady gravity of God's presence today.' That's it. Don't add more. Just offer them an anchor.
"Almighty God, we confess that we build our lives around things that aren't You. We let our anxieties become the sun in our solar system. We let our to-do lists exert a stronger gravity than Your presence. Forgive us. Clear our vision, let us see through the telescope of faith that You are the one, true center. Let that truth take root in us today. In Jesus' name... Amen."

This devotional got me thinking about Peter’s “simple cure” – like finding the tiny, vivid sparks amidst the rush. Sometimes the morning chaos, the emails, it just dulls everything into a grey blur. But what if Peter’s secret was just… seeing? Looking for that unexpected flash of colour 🎨 in the lunchbox, or the light catching a spiderweb on the way to school drop-off. It’s about letting that little bit of wonder truly land, bringing a shimmer of God’s presence into the practical mess. ✨ It makes the day feel less numb, more alive.

You don't have to carry it alone.
