1 Kings: Mending Broken Plans and Unhealthy Alliances

    February 11, 2026

Hey, glad you made it back to the ground today. Yesterday, we hit on sharing our inner truth despite our fears— And that brings us to... the inbox. You know the feeling. You open your email, hoping for that clear, organized space... and BAM. One hundred unread messages. Three hundred. Maybe a THOUSAND. It’s not just the quantity, is it? It’s the feeling that something, somewhere, is broken. That despite your best efforts to stay on top of things, the system is failing. Your carefully crafted replies feel like they’re vanishing into a digital black hole, and the anxiety of all those unseen demands just... builds. It's like you're sending out ships, but they're not quite making it to port...

"Turn with me to 1 Kings, Chapter 22, Verse 48. The text records: 'Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Ezion-geber.'" — 1 Kings 22:48

    The Briefing

This is the kind of truth that interrupts your schedule... We see Jehoshaphat, a good king, earnest in his endeavors, building ships to seek gold, much like we build our own projects, our careers, our relationships. But The text tells us his ships were broken. They never reached their destination. Meanwhile, Solomon’s ships, mentioned elsewhere, returned in safety. It’s a quiet ache, isn’t it? To see your best efforts fall apart, while others seem to sail along, uninterrupted. But The text doesn't leave us in the dark. It reveals a secret cause, a root problem behind Jehoshaphat’s loss: 'Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, The Lord hath broken thy works.' His alliance with a sinful family, his fellowship with sinners—that was the chronic issue, the deep wound that sabotaged his endeavors. This wasn't punishment as much as it was a fatherly chastisement, a spiritual diagnostic telling him, 'Your connections are literally breaking your works.' The Lord is good and wise in both prosperity and disappointment. Sometimes, the breaking of our works, the frustrating of our plans—like those overwhelming unread emails—isn't a random glitch. It’s The Lord showing us that a compromised connection is creating a spiritual wound, preventing our efforts from reaching their true purpose. He’s calling us to suture that connection, to separate from influences that are breaking our ships before they even leave the harbor...

    ⚔️ Your Mission

Here is how we walk this out... That unread email anxiety, that feeling of things constantly breaking down in our lives—it’s often a symptom. Today, let’s identify one 'unequal yoke' or 'compromised connection' in our lives. It could be a relationship that consistently pulls us away from The Lord, a habit we’ve linked ourselves to, or even a mindset we’ve adopted from the world. Practically speaking, we’re going to name it. We don't have to fix it perfectly today, or even sever it entirely. The 'low bar' is simply to acknowledge it. To say, 'This connection... this is breaking my works.' It’s the first step to allowing The Lord to mend things for us. Five minutes of honest reflection is ENOUGH.
"Let’s talk to the Father... Father, we are so grateful for Your profound wisdom, even when it comes in the form of broken plans or frustrating delays. Thank You for being a good and wise Ruler, always working for our ultimate good. Thank You for Your fatherly chastisement, for showing us where our connections are harming our works, and for giving us the courage to identify those wounds. We praise You for Your constant guidance and unwavering love. In Jesus' name... Amen."

Real talk, this whole “mending broken plans” thing? Fire. My project timelines get trashed daily. And with two kids? Forget about it. But thinking about God being in the re-plan, not just the original one… that’s legit. Makes me pause when the childcare schedule blows up. Like, okay, what now? Helps me trust the bigger picture, you know?

    Cheers

“Mending Broken Plans”? Child, please! Every day is a broken plan around here. Spilled milk, missing homework, late for school. But that devotional, it’s a reminder! When my perfect schedule shatters, it’s not a disaster. It’s God saying, “Hey, I’ve got a better plan.” Hallelujah! Instead of stressing, I can pause, let go, and watch Him work. Can I get a witness? Amen!

    Cheers
