Isaiah's Urgent Invitation to Higher Ground

    July 26, 2026

🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day

Let’s take a breath. It is really good to see you here. Have you ever felt that weird digital exhaustion? Not from what you're seeing, but from the simple act of switching between apps. You're in your email, then you jump to your texts, then you check the weather, then you remember that thing you needed from Amazon. Each jump is like a little cognitive speed bump, and by the end of it, you feel tired, but you haven't actually done anything. It’s just… friction. And in that friction, you can feel so incredibly distant from God, and you're not even sure who moved.

Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord. — Isaiah 2:3

    The Briefing

Some verses comfort. This one confronts. In the simplest language, Isaiah is standing in the middle of a crowd and saying, 'Hey. Let's get out of here. Let's go climb the mountain where God is.' It's an invitation, but it's also an urgent diagnosis of where we're standing right now. It implies the place we are is… not good. That it's low ground. A valley. And that's the first thing this tells us about God. He is not a valley God. He doesn't set up His throne room in the stagnant, swampy air of our anxiety and distraction. His presence is found on higher ground, in the clear air, where you can finally breathe. He is always inviting us up and out of the miasma. The cares of the world, the noise of our phones, the low-grade fever of worry, God's call is a rescue from that atmosphere. He isn't just waiting on the summit; He's the one who provides the strength for the climb. Look, we've all become dwellers in the valley. We sit like chained eagles, as the old writers would say, and the scary part is, we've started to love the chain. The endless scroll feels like connection. The constant pings feel like importance. We're trying to dig deep roots in shallow soil, and we wonder why we feel so unstable. The invitation to 'go up' is a call to leave the sick ecosystem we’ve accepted as normal. It’s a call to find the sunlight of His presence that can't penetrate the fog below. This isn't about a physical mountain. It's about a spiritual ascent. It’s the choice to turn off the notifications and open a book of Scripture. It's the decision to pray instead of panic. It's the deliberate act of leaving the noise to find His voice. The invitation is for right now. The air is better up there. And honestly? We desperately need to breathe.

    ⚔️ Your Mission

Here is your next step... Today’s mission is to plant a seed of Sabbath. Sometime today, for just five minutes, find a window. Put your phone in another room, not just on silent, but physically away from you. Just look outside. That’s it. Deliberately choose the mountain over the valley, even for a moment.
"Almighty God, we confess that we've grown comfortable in the valley. We've gotten used to the bad air and the low ceilings. We pray right now for our friends, our family members, we lift them by name to You, who are stuck in the fog of anxiety and distraction. Would You cut the cords that hold them there? Help them, and help us, to hear Your invitation to come up the mountain to where You are. Help us to take that first step upward today. In Jesus' name... Amen."

Spilled all the kids’ juice on the floor AGAIN right after mopping! My goodness. But then this ‘urgent invitation’ to higher ground? YES LORD. Trying to climb that mountain with sticky socks and a toddler hanging on my leg. It ain’t pretty, but it’s real. That’s the faith I know. Amen.

…dude, “higher ground.” that’s wild. i do not even know how to say this but it just… hit different. always thought higher ground was, like, getting to the roof of a club after a late shift, watching the sunrise over 6th Street before the city wakes up. or just making it home without totally crashing. but this idea in the post, about *realhigher ground, it’s mind blowing. like, what does that even mean? climbing out of the whole mess i was in before? yeah. kinda feels like that. still kinda hazy on the details of how to actually *getthere, but something about this just… stuck with me, deep down. wild.
