The Procession That Carried Your Shame
🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day
Ready to build the witness today? Good to have you. You know that feeling when someone gives you a compliment, and all you can think about is the part of you they don't see? The part you hide? It’s like the HVAC kicking on at three in the morning, a loud, mechanical hum. But honestly, the real noise starts when it shuts off. That deafening silence where all our failures and frauds start talking. It's a heavy kind of quiet. And it’s exactly what the gospel speaks into.
They took Jesus, and led Him away. — John 19:16The Briefing
That simple sentence from John hides a cosmic transaction. It’s so much more than a prisoner being moved. It’s the fulfillment of an ancient picture God painted for His people, the scapegoat. Once a year, the high priest would lay hands on a goat, confess the sins of Israel over it, and then send it away into the wilderness. It literally carried their guilt away. If you went looking for that sin, you couldn't find it. It was gone. And that's where the text flips the script.. because in this moment, Jesus becomes the great Scapegoat. God Himself lays on Him the iniquity of us all. The cross on His back was just the wood. The real weight He carried was our shame. Your shame. My shame. Every secret failure, every cutting word, every hidden compromise, He was carrying it out of the city. He wasn't just being taken to a place to die. He was actively replacing us in a divine exchange. So when we feel that internal friction, that feeling of being an imposter, we try to fix it. We pull out the spiritual sandpaper and try to smooth out our own rough edges. But all we make is sawdust. The gospel isn't about us getting better at woodworking. It's the defiant truth that the Carpenter already carried the flawed material away. That's not just optimism. That's a battle position. Our shame was led away with Him. Period.
⚔️ Your Mission
Here is how we walk this out... Consider... finding a quiet place on your walk today,a park bench, a turn in the road. Stop there. Name the specific shame you've been carrying. Speak it out loud to God. Then, turn and walk away from that spot. Don't look back. Let your steps be the physical act of trusting that He has already carried that sin away from you."Dear Lord, we can't measure the cost of what You did. Thank You for not just forgiving our sin, but for physically carrying it away. For becoming the scapegoat so we could become Your children. The weight of our own shame is too much, but You took it all in that procession to the cross. Help us to live like we believe that trade was real, final, and enough. Let us walk in the freedom You purchased for us today. In Jesus' name... Amen."

You don't have to carry it alone.

“The Procession That Carried Your Shame.” That phrasing. Initially, felt like an abstract concept being transferred, a system migration of guilt. But the ‘procession’ aspect… that complicates the schema. Public, visible, deliberate. Not just a clean deletion from a log. What does that public display do? The logic tracks up to a point, but the emotional weight of that image… that’s harder to quantify. Worth sitting with.
