The Life Only God Can Start
🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day
It’s good to be with you today. Thanks for showing up. I was out in the garage this morning, smelling that fresh-cut pine from a project I'm working on. There's something deeply satisfying about taking a raw piece of wood and making it into something useful, you know, sanding the rough edges, making it fit. But let's be real, you can only fix what’s already there. You can't make a dead piece of wood grow again. And I think that's the spot where so many of us get stuck, trying to renovate a part of ourselves that actually needs to be made new.
Ye must be born again. — John 3:7The Briefing
This is one of those truths that sounds so simple, it’s easy to miss how radical it is. When Jesus tells this very religious, very accomplished man Nicodemus that he must be 'born again,' He's not giving him a new self-help tip. He's delivering a verdict on all human effort. He’s saying, essentially, 'Your entire operating system is wrong. You don’t need an update, you need a complete reinstall.' This isn't about trying harder or cleaning up your act. It's about a supernatural event that you cannot perform on yourself. Here's what gets me: you can wash and dress a corpse. You can put it in a nice suit, comb its hair, make it look presentable. But you cannot make it breathe. Man can do the one; only God can do the other. And that’s the picture John is painting of our spiritual state without Christ, we are dead in our sins. And this is where it gets uncomfortable.. God isn't interested in our spiritual renovation projects. He's not here to help you sand down the rough edges of your old self. He's in the business of resurrection. The whole point of the cross wasn't to give us a second chance to try harder; it was to absorb the death we earned so He could give us a second life we could never earn. This new birth is a work of the Holy Spirit, infusing a life principle into us that was not there before. For the believer, hear me on this, the pressure is off. You don't have to maintain this. Your new nature has a new kind of 'muscle memory' for holiness. It’s not about our own spiritual endurance or trying to condition ourselves back to life. It's about living out of the new life He has already begun in you. It's His work, from start to finish.
⚔️ Your Mission
Here is your assignment... a step of radical surrender. Stop trying to renovate the room God wants to demolish and rebuild. Here is the practical step: Name out loud the one area of your life, the one habit, the one relationship you have been trying to fix by yourself. Say it to God right now: 'I can't fix this. I can only make it look better. Make it new.' Then let it go for today."Gracious God, we confess how often we pick up the hammer and nails, trying to fix what is dead. We try to dress up our old nature and call it growth. Forgive us for trusting our own hands more than Your life-giving breath. Today, we release the projects we can't finish and ask You to do the work only You can do. Make us new from the inside out. Let that truth take root in us today. In Jesus' name... Amen."

Different. So many people out here tryna build their own thing, you know what I mean? Chasing stuff that ain’t even built to last. But when it’s God’s move from jump street? That’s when it’s real. No cap. Gives me that peace, even on these long commutes across the city, knowing I’m not just spinning my wheels. We gotta trust His timing, trust His blueprint. That’s the vibe. The real vibe. 👊

Dude, that whole thing about god actually *startingstuff, like this new life thing… mind blown. Cause seriously, before, it was just like, you make your own way, right? Grind it out. Hustle. Always been that way, especially with the late shifts, just pushing through.
But this is saying something totally different. I do not even know how to say this but it’s like… someone else flipped the switch. Or built the whole damn circuit. So like, am *Isupposed to do anything now? Or just… keep showing up to the party god started? Wild. Still trying to figure it out, but that just hit different.
