Matthew 26 and the Strength of Getting Low

We build our lives on a different foundation, don't we? We build a facade of competence. We think prayer is about having the right words, a well-reasoned argument, or a specific formula to get God's attention. We treat it like a business meeting. But this moment in the garden undoes all of that. It shows us that authentic prayer, the kind that can bear infinite weight, has more to do with our posture than our performance. The surrender comes first. The alignment with the Father's will is the whole point. This is the hidden rebar in a soul that won't break, a willingness to yield before we even speak. And let's be honest, we need that. We're all managing something that resists management. A relationship. A project at work. An anxiety that won't listen to reason. And the resistance is wearing us down. We try to pray harder, which to us means talking more, pleading more, thinking more. But what if Jesus's example invites us to do the opposite? What if the first, best move is to stop talking and just.. fall? To let our physical posture declare what our frantic minds can't. That we're not in control. That we surrender. That's where we learn to see the sacred in the ordinary exhaustion of a Monday.
