Nahum's Patient Power: Finding Hope in Exhaustion
🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day
Hey there. Let’s get grounded together. It’s Sunday, and maybe you’re feeling that familiar hum of the week ahead, or just the lingering exhaustion from the one behind. We live in a world of constant connection, you know? Instant messages, always-on feeds, we’re more connected digitally than any civilization before us. And yet, honestly? Sometimes all that digital buzz just highlights a deeper sense of isolation, or even, dare I say, loneliness. It can feel like we have more convenience than ever, but less peace than ever. Today’s words from Nahum offer a quiet, ancient truth that cuts through all that noise.
The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power. — Nahum 1:3The Briefing
This passage, this short verse from Nahum, it's not just something you read. It feels like a steady hand on a shaking shoulder, honestly. It says, basically: God doesn't rush to get angry, and He's incredibly, overwhelmingly powerful. Think about that. We live in a world where quick reactions are rewarded, instant tweets, immediate judgments, the comparison trap telling us someone else’s win means our scarcity. We can get so quickly irritated by a LinkedIn promotion announcement or the neighbor’s new car, can't we? Our anger is often a hair-trigger thing. But here is the other side of that coin.. God is slow to anger. This isn't weakness, it's a profound display of His power. It’s like unearthing an ancient artifact during an excavation, a truth that feels solid and unchanging, a contrast to our fast-paced, fragile world. He has the power to unleash everything, yet He restrains Himself. It reminds me of those obscure 90s snacks, like a Surge soda on a hot day, there was an innocence to a world where sugar was the strongest thing in your life, not the constant overwhelm. This isn't just a theological concept; it's a truth designed to loosen the knot in your chest. The daily eb, this audio devotional experience you're listening to right now, is here to help us lean into these truths, day by day.
⚔️ Your Mission
Here is how we walk this out today: Go outside. Seriously, just step out your door. Find one natural artifact, a rock, a leaf, a patch of dirt, a cloud, a tree branch. Consider it. Don't take a picture, don't analyze it. Just behold it for two minutes. Let the simple act of witnessing something God made, something that has been steady for ages, remind you of His quiet, enduring power, and His patience with all of creation."Let’s pray. Lord, we confess that we are often impatient. We rush to judgment, we react in anger, we compare our lives to others and feel the sting of scarcity. We perform for You, for others, even for ourselves. Help us stop. Help us just tell You what’s actually going on in our hearts, the exhaustion, the quiet anxieties, the fears. Almighty God, help us rest in Your incredible patience and power, knowing You are not quick to anger with us. In Jesus' name... Amen."

I reckon some days I feel like I’m runnin’ on fumes before the store even opens… and then those folks come in. This makes me think ‘bout how I don’t gotta fix everything all at once. Like with little Billy’s grades, or tryin’ to make the rent stretch… it ain’t all on me to force it. Makes you kinda… breathe a little deeper, you know? That God’s got a handle on things, even when I’m just plain wore out.
You don't have to carry it alone.

“Nahum’s Patient Power.” That bit about finding hope when you’re completely wiped? Reckon that’s spot on. On site, when the day just grinds you down, it’s easy to cut corners. Or just snap at folks. But knowing there’s a steady strength there, even when I’m running on empty. That helps me keep my head. Helps me stick to doing things right. 👍
