Hebrews: Trading Fear for God's Steadfast Promise
🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day
It’s good to be with you today. Thanks for showing up. Before the house truly wakes up, I often find myself in the quiet hum of the kitchen, the only one stirring. My dog, Buddy, is usually already there, watching me with a slow, hopeful drumbeat of his tail as I pour that first cup, stirring the cream and watching it spiral into the dark coffee. In that quiet, before the day’s odometer even really starts turning, there’s a phrase that settles in.
He hath said. — Hebrews 13:5The Briefing
Honestly? You could build a cathedral on words like that. “He hath said.” The writer of Hebrews is giving us a kind of dead reckoning here, isn't he? When life throws us a detour, and honestly, the curated 'main character' version of our lives rarely shows the 2 AM worries or the forgotten lunch boxes of the morning huddle,we often lose our bearings. We look at our circumstances, our worries, and the gap between the highlight reel and the messy reality, and fear starts to creep in. Yet, there is another layer to this.. The text says, 'He has said.' Not, 'He might say,' or 'He could say.' It's a done deal, past tense, an already established truth. This isn't just a promise; it's a statement of fact that stands as firm as the ground beneath our feet, where we dig deep roots in shallow soil. What a gift, you know? This isn't something we earned, this is a grace. God didn't have to say that. But He did. And He meant it. It means that no matter how many miles we put on our internal odometer today, His word holds.
⚔️ Your Mission
So, what do we do with this? We take His word, His promise, as our map. Maybe that looks like a prayer walk today, a deliberate detour from your usual path, even if it’s just around the block. Use that time, those steps, to physically move and pray for the person who’s been on your mind lately but you haven't called. Let each step be a moment of intercession for them."Let’s talk to the Father, the One who has spoken truth into our very existence, who always keeps His word. Father, we bring before You that person who lingers in our thoughts, the one we haven't reached out to. We ask for Your hand on their life, for Your presence to be undeniably real to them today. Give us the courage to be Your hands and feet, to live out the truth that You have indeed said. Almighty God, In Jesus' name... Amen."

This devotional, it talked about God’s promises bein’ steadfast. I reckon that’s a word I don’t hear much. Everything else in my life feels like it could just up and change tomorrow, you know?
But the idea of somethin’ just stayin’ steady… like a rock. That kinda sticks with me. When I’m countin’ out change for folks or cleanin’ up aisle three, and I start worryin’ ‘bout next week’s rent, I can try to remember that. That God’s promises ain’t like folks’ promises. They ain’t gonna just fade away. That’s a comfort, I reckon. Just gotta hold onto that.
You don't have to carry it alone.
