The Only Address That Can't Be Lost

    November 02, 2026

🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day

Hey. Let's sit with something for a minute. Do you remember the sound of dial-up internet? That screeching, static-filled handshake between your computer and the world. And then, after all that waiting.. the little voice: 'You've Got Mail!' It was this tiny hit of hope. A feeling that someone, somewhere, was thinking of you. That you were connected. Honestly, I think we're all still chasing a version of that feeling, the deep-down longing to be known, to have a place where we truly belong.

We dwell in Him. — 1 John 4:13

    The Briefing

We spend so much of our lives looking for a place to finally land. A place where we don't have to perform. A room where we can exhale, where we're not just observed, but actually known. It's a deep, human ache for a spiritual home. And John, in just three words, gives us the address. He says, "We dwell in Him." Think about what that means. Our truest home, our permanent residence, is inside of God Himself. We're not just visitors. We're not couch-surfing. We live here. But here's the thing. Our nature wants to pay rent. We want to do something to earn our spot, to prove we're worth having around. We want to show God our spiritual credit score. But the key to this house isn't earned. It's given. It’s free. The only price is abandoning the pride that tells us we have to pay for it. And we all feel too shabby for a place like this, right? We know the mess in our own lives. We know the parts of us that aren't fit for company. But the most stunning thing about this arrangement is that Jesus doesn't hand us the keys and tell us to clean up before He comes over. He moves in with the mess. He provides the spiritual sustenance we need. He starts making us fit for the very house He's already given us. This isn't some flimsy shelter. It's a strong habitation. When the heat of life gets turned up, this is the one place that won't burn down. When everything else feels like it's being stripped away, our core identity is secure. And that truth performs a kind of reduction on our fears,it boils them all down until only one solid thing remains: We have a home. And we're already in it.

    ⚔️ Your Mission

So let's make this real. God didn't give us His leftovers; He gave us Himself as a home. Today, we're going to give our best, not our surplus. Find one person who needs your full attention, not the ten minutes you have free, but the hour you don't have free. Give them your undivided presence. Or, if that's not your situation: look at your finances. Give the amount of money to someone in need that makes you pause and take a breath before you hit 'send'. The gift has to cost something, because the home we've been given cost everything.
"Gracious God, thank You. We get so busy trying to build our own shelters and earn our own keep that we forget the truth. You've already given us a home. A permanent, safe, eternal place in You. Thank you that we don't have to be worthy to enter, because You make us worthy once we're inside. Help us to live like we believe that's true today, secure, at rest, and unafraid. Let us rest in the fact that we are already home. In Jesus' name... Amen."

We dwell in Him.1 John 4:13

John is describing the Christian's relationship with God. He pictures it as finding a home for your soul in Jesus. This isn't a place you can earn or afford to rent. It's a permanent dwelling that's offered freely.

To "dwell in Him" is to live inside this spiritual house. It’s where you find safety, rest, and communion with Christ. The home is eternal, more solid than granite, because the house itself is God. It provides everything you need, and you enter it simply by coming to Jesus.
