🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day

Peace be with you. It's Sunday. And for many, it's Father's Day. Maybe you went to church this morning, sang the songs, heard the sermon.. and felt like a tourist in a city you've lived in your whole life. That feeling can follow you home. It's the kind of doubt that waits for the quiet of the late night, the replay of every moment you felt like an impostor, the gnawing sense that you just don't belong.

Ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. — Galatians 3:26

The Briefing

This verse from Paul? Honestly, it's a signal flare cutting right through the noise. It’s a declaration so simple you could miss its weight. He's saying that through trust in Jesus, you are a child of God. Full stop. And here's what gets me, God’s fatherhood isn’t conditional. It doesn’t fluctuate based on our performance. He has one family register, and all the names are written in the same ink. There isn't a VIP section for the spiritual giants and a bleacher section for the rest of us. The apostle Paul, who saw the risen Lord, is no more a child of God than you are on the morning you can barely get out of bed to pray. all of you, Paul says. Not 'some of you.' Not 'the strong ones.' all. Think about that. We spend so much of our lives trying to sand down our own rough edges, trying to fix the places where the grain of our character feels warped. We carry this low-grade friction, this sense that we're a project that isn't quite measuring up. But our sonship, our daughterhood, it’s not based on the quality of the wood. It’s based on the promise of the Carpenter. Our identity isn’t secured by the strength of our grip on Him, but by the undeniable fact of His grip on us. And this is where it gets uncomfortable.. especially on a day like today, Father’s Day, which can be loaded for so many. We tend to project our experience with earthly fathers onto God. We assume His love is earned, His approval is fragile. But Paul is pleading with us here to see the truth. You aren’t an employee on probation. You aren’t a distant relative. You are a child. Your place at the table is set, not because you are strong, but because He is good.

⚔️ Your Mission

I have a challenge for you... It's a 'First 5' Reset for tomorrow morning. Your move is simple: Before you touch your phone, find a piece of paper. Write down the one area where you feel you don't measure up as a child of God. Then, right underneath it, write Paul’s words: 'I am a child of God by faith in Christ Jesus.' Let God's chisel do the work, not your anxiety.

"Dear Lord, we’re just stopping the clock for a second to let that sink in. We lay down the need to perform, the constant self-evaluation, the feeling that we have to earn our place. You have already called us Your children. You are the perfect Father to every one of us, especially to those for whom that word is painful today. Help us to simply rest in who You say we are. In Jesus' name... Amen."

Ah now, that title “No Second-Class Children in God’s House” really does warm the heart, doesn’t it? Just having my second cup of Barry’s this morning, watching the rain and thinking about poor old Mrs. Murphy up the street and her troubles. It’s so easy to forget, isn’t it? That God sees us all, every single one of us, as precious. No matter our worries, our station, or even the colour of our garden gnome, ha! Brilliant altogether to be reminded there are no favourites with the Lord. A lovely thought to carry through the day, thanks be to God. You’ve a real knack for bringing comfort, you do. Makes a body feel grand.

Okay, so the title… “No Second-Class Children.” Legit, almost skipped this one, my brain is just mush after Leo’s soccer practice, total chaos. But this idea of no second-class kids… that’s just real talk. Like, even when you feel like you’re barely keeping it together, missing quiet times, not really nailing the “spiritual disciplines” whatever. You’re still in.

It’s like, in project management, sometimes you have team members who aren’t hitting their KPIs perfectly, but they’re still part of the team. You don’t just… cut them from the project. God’s like that, but way better. He doesn’t even see the “second-class.” Just family. That is fire. No joke.
