John 15 and the Instrument That Clears the Fog
🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day
I know it’s a lot out there right now, but I’m glad you’re here. It’s Monday. You hear that thud on the porch, the delivery driver dropped a package and is already sprinting back to the truck. No knock, no bell. Just another box to open, another task on the list. And you realize, you cannot find the edges of yourself anymore. The to-do list and the person, well, they've started to blend. Your worth feels tied to what you can get done. And that feeling, right there, is why we need to sit with this verse today.
As the Father hath loved Me, so have I loved you. — John 15:9The Briefing
Okay but here's the part that wrecks me.. it's the structure. The verse is an equation. A direct, one-to-one comparison. Jesus isn't just saying He loves us. He’s giving us the blueprint for that love. He’s basically saying, 'You want to know the quality, the intensity, the kind of love I have for you? Look at how the Father loves Me. It’s that one.' And what kind of love is that? Think about that. It’s a love that has no starting point. It didn't begin when we got our act together, it existed in eternity, before time. It’s a love without change. It’s not hotter on the good days and cooler on the bad ones. It’s the constant thrust holding you aloft, completely independent of your performance. And here's the thing, it's a love without measure and without end. There's no limit, no cap, no point at which He says, 'That's enough.' We don't know how to operate in that kind of reality, honestly. Our world is transactional. Our love has a start date. It gets tired. It keeps score. So we naturally assume God's love must have similar limits. We live as if we're in the cockpit of our lives trying to fly by sight in a thick fog, completely forgetting we have instruments that tell the actual truth. We feel like we're falling, so we must be falling. But this verse is the altimeter. It gives a true reading. It says the love that holds you is as eternal, as unchanging, and as infinite as the love God has for God. It’s a love that was secured before your Monday to-do list ever existed, and it will be there long after it's done. It’s not a feeling that might dissipate in the turbulence, it is the foundational physics of your new reality in Him. It’s the truth of where you are, even when you can’t see a thing.
⚔️ Your Mission
Let's put this into practice... Take a prayer walk today, even if it's just to the mailbox and back. Maybe that looks like walking around the block on your lunch break. With every few steps, name one thing you're trying to do to earn your keep, with God, with others, with yourself. Then, out loud, just say, 'Your love is not based on this.' Let your feet moving forward be an act of trusting the love that has already arrived."Father, we plant our feet on this promise. The love You have for the Son is the love He has for us, a love that is constant, measureless, and eternal. It is our true altimeter in the fog. Help us to believe the instruments of Your Word over the feeling of turbulence around us. Let that truth take root in us today. In Jesus' name... Amen."

Read the records of the community below.TimothyJune 24, 2026The clarity offered by the divine instrument, as you describe it, brings to mind that gentle phrase from Compline, “Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee, O Lord.” There is such deep honour in seeking the truth, allowing it to dispel the encroaching mists of the world. It is a quiet comfort, much like the sound of the bells for Evensong drifting over the shop this afternoon, whilst I was shelving some older theology.
Yours faithfully, Timothy

The ‘instrument that clears the fog’ idea? That is so timely. Exactly what is needed when the schedule gets intense and things just start to feel, well, cloudy. Especially after an early morning workout, trying to set the tone for the day. My pastor just talked about staying grounded in our purpose, and this connects perfectly. Definitely sharing this!
