Isaiah and the Wound That Heals All Others
🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day
Ready to build the witness today? Good to have you. I was thinking about that moment when an old wound reopens. You know the one. You thought you'd moved on. You forgave them. You did the work. Then a stray comment, a photo, or just a quiet Tuesday afternoon happens, and the ache is right back, sharp as ever. It makes the forgiveness feel like a lie. It makes the healing feel like it never even started. It's a lonely, frustrating place to be.
With His stripes we are healed. — Isaiah 53:5The Briefing
The generosity of God in a verse like this is almost disorienting. Because when Isaiah writes about 'stripes,' he isn't using a poetic phrase. He's prophesying a specific, horrific event. The Roman scourge was a dreadful instrument. It was designed to tear a person apart, piece by piece. This is what God, in the person of Jesus, willingly endured. That's the first thing we have to get straight. God's love isn't a soft, pastel thing. It's a love with grit. A love that is willing to absorb the absolute worst of human violence to purchase our healing. But here's where it gets real for us on a Friday in twenty twenty-six. Isaiah says, 'With His stripes we are healed.' Past tense. It’s a finished declaration, not a future hope. This violent, bloody act sketched a new reality for us. It brings a terrible clarity to the cost of our sin and the even greater cost of our redemption. In the whole gallery of human history, this is the one portrait of love that redefines everything else. It tells a true and weighty story about God: He doesn't just tolerate our brokenness; He enters it and takes the worst of it onto Himself to make us whole. So when we feel the chaos of our own unhealed places, the old wounds that won't seem to close, the forgiveness that feels fragile, we're looking at the wrong injury. The state of our healing doesn't change the status of His. Our healing was secured by His breaking. It's not a feeling we work up to; it's a fact we stand on. He took the lashes so we could find our peace. That promise is the anchor when the feelings of brokenness come back.
⚔️ Your Mission
Let's put this into practice where we take ancient truth and walk it out. Today's mission is to exercise a Sacred No over the wounds that try to define us. Try this: The next time the memory of that old hurt surfaces today, stop. Don't spiral. Don't re-litigate it. Say no to the loop. Instead, just say these words out loud: 'By His stripes, this is already healed.' Let His finished work have the final word, not the old pain."Dear Lord, we confess we don't thank you enough for the physical reality of the cross. We are quick to celebrate the empty tomb, but we forget the horrific price paid at the whipping post. Thank you that our healing isn't a feeling we have to maintain, but a historical fact You established with Your own body. You didn't just patch us up; You made us new. Help us live today as people who are truly and eternally healed because of You. Let us rest in the finality of that sacrifice. In Jesus' name... Amen."

Like yesterday, sketching by the creek, and seeing how the light spilled through a split in the rock face, illuminating everything. There’s such a tender strength in those exposed places. Where the ordinary becomes a source of quiet wonder. ✨

Dude, almost skipped this one, two kids under 6, you know? But “wound that heals all others”? That’s fire. Real talk, you gotta triage the biggest problem first. No joke.
