Solomon's Prayer for a Deeper Connection
🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day
Hey there. Let’s get grounded together. Do you remember those moments, maybe from years ago, maybe just last week, sitting with someone you love, and nothing needed to be said? No problem needed fixing. No awkward silence needed filling. Just a shared quiet. A sense of being fully known and fully safe. It was enough. It's a rare feeling now, isn't it? We have more ways to connect than ever, but often feel more distant. We're digging deep roots in shallow soil, and it's left us thirsty for something real.
Let Him kiss me with the kisses of His mouth. — Song of Songs 1:2The Briefing
Stay with me here.. this is one of those lines that feels almost too intimate for the Bible, right? It sounds like a love song, because it is. But it’s also one of the most profound theological statements we have. Solomon’s speaker doesn't name Him. She just says 'Him', because for her, there is no other. This isn't a vague wish. It's a direct, bold, almost breathless demand for connection. What this reveals is a God who isn't interested in formal, arms-length religion. He's a God of nearness. He's a God of affection. The request here is for 'kisses',plural. Theologians see this as a lifetime of encounters with God. There was the first one, the kiss of reconciliation, when we were saved. Then there's the ongoing kiss of acceptance, the daily reminder that we're His. And the one we ache for most, the kiss of present communion, the felt sense of His presence in the middle of our chaotic lives. This is a God who gets close enough to touch. Think about that. The God of the universe isn't a distant architect. He’s more like a master potter with His hands on the clay. He isn't afraid to get involved in the messy work of sculpting a life. Our relationship with Him isn't a transaction; it's a hands-on process. We come to Him cracked and worn, and He doesn't just patch the holes. His presence is the glaze, the mercy that makes the broken places the most beautiful. So when we echo this ancient prayer, we're not asking for a feeling. We're asking for the Person, for the Artist to meet us right here at the wheel, to ground us with His touch.
⚔️ Your Mission
I have a challenge for you... Tonight, choose communion over completion. Surrender the day thirty minutes earlier than you normally would. Put the phone in another room, turn off the screen, and just sit in the quiet. Let the unfinished tasks go. This isn't about productivity; it's about making space for the only presence that can truly ground you."Almighty God, we are so tired. We've been chasing connection in all the wrong places. We confess that we often settle for the noise of the world instead of the quiet of Your presence. Still our restless hearts. Meet us here in this moment. Remind us that Your mercy is closer than our next breath. Let us rest in the simple truth that You are with us. In Jesus' name... Amen."

Read the records of the community below.CalebJuly 23, 2026Man, this morning was a blur. Woke up to a tiny human trying to climb the fridge at 5 AM. No chance of sleeping in, again. Almost scrolled past this whole thing, honestly.
But then it hit on Solomon wanting that “deeper connection.” Legit, it feels like another huge project to manage, right? Like, where do you even find the bandwidth for that? Real talk, my current sprint is just keeping everyone fed and somewhat clean.
But no joke, I get what it’s saying. There’s this part of me that really craves it, even when I’m just trying to keep all the plates spinning. Like, how do you even prioritize a “deeper connection” when you’re just trying to survive the week? It’s a lot to… think about.
You don't have to carry it alone.

“Deeper connection,” YES LORD! Trying to find that between wiping sticky hands and breaking up a fight over a blue crayon? Whew. It’s a battle, friends. But that *desirefor it, that’s the real prayer, isn’t it? Just wanting to *wantit more. Can I get a witness? My living room looks like a toy tornado hit, but my spirit is still reaching. Amen!
