When Your Heart Melts Like Wax
🎧 Today's devotional — listen while you start your day
Good to have you back. I scrolled past a headline this week about the loneliness epidemic, especially among young adults. And it stuck with me. Because I think for a lot of us, loneliness isn't about being in an empty room. It's the fear that if people could see all of us, really see the cracks and the compromises, they wouldn't stay. It's the quiet, exhausting work of hiding the fact that we feel like we’re about to collapse. That we're not as structurally sound as we pretend. That's a heavy weight to carry alone. And it’s your daily briefing for the spiritual journey.
My heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. — Psalm 22:14The Briefing
The Psalmist’s words are raw. Visceral. He’s not just saying he's sad. He’s describing a total internal collapse. A loss of integrity. The feeling of everything solid inside you just.. giving way. Straight up, it's the language of despair. It’s a soul-level failure of structure. But there's a deeper current running here.. This isn't just a man's private pain recorded in an old book. This is prophecy. We're getting a look under the hood at the agony of the cross. This verse shows us a God willing to endure the ultimate stress fracture of the soul. In his final hours, Jesus felt this profound abandonment, this melting away of strength, to a degree we can't possibly imagine. His cry of being forsaken wasn't theatrical. It was the sound of a heart like wax. And here’s why that matters more than anything. This terrible moment is what makes Him a faithful High Priest. Because He went there, to the absolute bottom, He always understands where we are. When we feel our own inner load-bearing walls start to crack, He isn't a distant spectator. He's an empathetic brother. He knows what a foundation failure feels like because He let the ground give way beneath Him for our sake. He can be touched with the feeling of our infirmities. So when we feel that numbness, that shame, that quiet terror that we’re about to come apart at the seams.. we're not alone. The Master has passed through this dark room before us. Our pain doesn’t disqualify us from His presence. It actually qualifies us for a deeper communion with Him. The rebar of our faith isn't our own strength. It's His shared suffering. That's not a suggestion. It’s a declaration. And there is zero ambiguity here.
⚔️ Your Mission
So here is the mission... Before you voice a complaint today, about your job, the heat, anything, stop. Name two things that are load-bearing in your life. Two things that are actually holding, even if just barely. Try this: say them out loud. Give the gratitude as much airtime as the grievance."Almighty God, thank You for not being a distant God. Thank You that Jesus's suffering wasn't for nothing, that it made Him a High Priest who understands our deepest, most incoherent pain. You know what a melted heart feels like. You don't run from our weakness; You meet us in it. Let that truth be the foundation that holds us today. In Jesus' name... Amen."

Read the records of the community below.Mrs. HarrisonAugust 14, 2026A heart that melts is not a broken thing at all, honey. It is just getting ready for a new shape. The Lord knows, after all these years, how He can take even the hardest stone and make it pliable. Won’t He do it. He’ll make something new out of the old. Got to finish these rolls for the pantry, but this truth stays with me. Grateful for His unending goodness.
The Lord is faithful. — Mrs. Harrison

My heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.Psalm 22:14
This verse is a prophetic description of Jesus's physical agony on the cross. It captures the moment of utter collapse under extreme trauma. When the cross was dropped into its socket, the shock and violence strained his entire body. For hours, his own weight intensified the pain, creating an overwhelming sense of weakness.
The phrase "my heart is like wax" is a metaphor for a total loss of strength. It's the feeling of your inner vitality dissolving, leaving nothing but faintness and misery. All courage and physical power have simply melted away under the strain of suffering, leaving him completely spent.
In modern language, the line means something like this: "My strength has failed; it's just melted away inside of me."

wild, man. that “heart melting like wax” thing? kinda mind blowing. before, i just felt… locked down, you know? like always on guard, especially working late nights on 6th. and now it’s like, i do not even know how to say this but, something just kinda… opened up. feels really peaceful in a way i haven’t felt. is that what it means? like your inside changes and it’s soft now? wild.
