Ezekiel: Rejecting Pride, Embracing Grace and Divine Dependence
Good to have you back. Yesterday, we talked about God's strength in weakness. But here is the other side of that coin... Picture this... it's a busy Monday morning, 2026. You’re at your favorite coffee shop, navigating the intricate dance of the queue, the mobile order pickups, the barista calls. And honestly, we’ve all been there—feeling like we’re a PRO at this specific social choreography. We know exactly where to stand, when to nod, how to project that air of cool, unbothered efficiency. We're practically MASTERS of coffee shop etiquette. We might even silently judge the person fumbling with their wallet or blocking the exit. We get our perfectly crafted drink, give a little self-satisfied nod, thinking, 'Yep, nailed it.' It’s a quiet, almost imperceptible pride... this feeling that we did it, we navigated the chaos, we deserve this perfectly caffeinated victory... until you realize you’ve forgotten your laptop charger, or you actually picked up someone ELSE'S oat milk latte. And just like that, the illusion of our self-made competence crumbles... a little bit.
"Look at what is written in Ezekiel, Chapter 15, Verse 2: Ezekiel asks, 'Son of man, What is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest?'" — Ezekiel 15:2The Briefing
I’ve been chewing on this one since I first read it... Ezekiel isn't just asking a rhetorical question here; he’s peeling back our layers of self-deception. We are like a humble vine branch. What are we, TRULY, apart from the vine? Without that constant, life-giving connection to The Lord, we’re just a dried-up stick, destined for the fire. Any fruitfulness, any strength, any genuine good in us—it’s not our own doing. It's a direct flow of divine grace. We can look at our lives, our perceived successes, our moments of strength, and think, 'Look what I built.' But The Lord reminds us: EVERY good thing is a borrowed stream from His endless well. We're utterly dependent. It's like a young sapling, pushing through a thicket, thinking it grew strong by its own will, ignoring the deep roots drawing nutrients from hidden springs, oblivious to the rain and sun. Without that continual divine influence, we would shrivel in a spiritual drought. There is NO ground for pride, seriously. We are just... receivers. Remember that self-satisfied nod in the coffee shop? This verse reminds us that even that tiny, fleeting win was sustained by a thousand unseen mercies. Our competence, our patience, our ability to even stand there? All grace.
⚔️ Your Mission
So, what do we do with this? We lean into what Ezekiel is urging: radical humility and heartfelt gratitude. Practically speaking, let's take a moment today to consciously acknowledge the source of EVERYTHING good. When you achieve something, however small—a productive meeting, a moment of unexpected patience, or simply finding your keys—pause. Instead of that quick flash of self-congratulation, pivot to gratitude. Thank The Lord for the clarity, the strength, the grace that enabled it. It doesn't have to be a grand, public declaration, just an HONEST, whispered 'thank you' in your heart. This gratitude pivot disarms pride and reroutes our focus to where it truly belongs. Start small. Even five minutes, just acknowledging three things you 'achieved' today that were actually gifts from The Lord. That's enough."Let’s lift this up together... Gracious God, we come before You, humbled by the truth that every good thing in us, every moment of strength, every flicker of fruitfulness, is a direct gift from Your boundless grace. We confess our tendency to take credit, to believe we are more than we are without You. Thank You for being the source of our life, the very vine from which we draw all sustenance. Help us to reject pride, to live in constant, honest gratitude for Your sustaining love. May our hearts always turn to You as the wellspring of all good. In Jesus' name... Amen."

But you gotta depend on more than just yourself. The crew. The plans. Getting it right for the folks who’ll live there. That’s divine dependence. It’s about doing solid work. 👍

Yo, that Ezekiel read today? 🔥 Talking about rejecting pride and embracing divine dependence. Big facts. Had me thinking about how I try to run the whole youth ministry myself sometimes, like I got all the answers. But then that “divine dependence” hits. It’s a real check. Forces me to pause and actually remember it’s not my strength that makes things move on the block. It’s Him. That’s how you stay steady when the streets are wild. 👊
